Fratelli Wines – A weekend to remember!

Fratelli Wines

With our 7th anniversary coming up, Sangeeta and I were looking for a weekend getaway. Fratelli wines has been one of the #PEO favorites, so we decided to go for it. Good decision.

Located about 3.5 hours away from Pune (with pretty decent roads all the way), Fratelli provided us possibly one of the most relaxing experiences we have had in a while.

The Experience

The experience starts as you park your car. the Fratelli folks pick up the bags from the car, and you head straight to your room – no check in formalities, filling 15 forms, etc. Bags dropped of in the room with a comment – ‘Sir, aap fresh ho jaiyye, khana taiyyar hai‘ – music to our ears – as we reached around 2:30, we were ravenous.

Feels

The Fratelli guest house was made about 10 years back for the owners and their guests. So the overall feel of the place is like a luxurious 4 bedroom villa. Cozy bedrooms, large wooden dining tables, comfy sofas with a massive TV. And a pool table! All right in front of the open kitchen. Feels like home.

Post lunch we were told that our tour wil start at 5, so we chose to chill at the pool table, while our daughter lounged in front of the TV.

The Tour

The weekend getaway package includes a factory, fields, and wine cellar wineyard tour. 80 acres of grapes is a sight to behold.

We also checked out the wine cellar and the tasting chamber.

Wine Tasting

The tours and all are nice, but the wine tasting is the highlight! 5 glasses of wine are enough to set the mood for the rest of the evening, and you can choose any of the bottles available there at a discounted rate (800/- for a bottle of MS White is a steal of the Crimemaster Gogo kind!)

We spent the rest of the evening in the garden, wiping off the bottle of wine with some delicious smoked cheddar cheese, crackers and peanuts.

Dinner, as mentioned above, was mutton, bhakri and rice (along with dal, paneer, and a bowl of khichdi made specially for my kid. Pihu conveniently ignored it and attacked the mutton. Post dinner, Bhola comes up to me and says “Sir aapko raat ko bhuk lage toh fridge me khana hai, microwave hai, cupbord me chevda, fruits, cornflakes, chocos, sab hai. Jo chahiye le lijiye ga”. Feels like home 🙂

They were also gracious enough to send us a cake to celebrate our anniversary 🙂

Breakfast next day was coffee, omlets, poha and toast – all made to order. We checked out around 1030, picking up 3 bottles of wine for ~2500 and clearing our bill (~5900 AI for the whole experience)

We celebrated our 7th Wedding Anniversary on 11th Dec at Fratelli wineyards, Akkluj. And we will be back for many many more. Thank you Fratelli – this was amazing
